Root Canal is a procedure to remove bacteria and dead tissue from inside the tooth. This treatment is used to repair and save a tooth that is badly decayed or becomes infected. With the advancement in technology, getting a root canal done has become much easier than ever before. An average root canal treatment may require multiple visits to your dentist or endodontist, depending upon your case. If you are looking for an effective treatment for root canal along with other dental issues at a competitive price, then go to Pune or Mumbai as the root canal treatment cost in Pune & Mumbai is lesser as compared to many other cities in India.

Steps of a root canal:

The tooth contains a soft tissue known as ‘pulp’ which provides nourishment to the tooth. The pulp is located beneath the white hard part of the tooth. The pulp contains blood vessels, nerves and connective tissues. During root canal treatment, this pulp is cleared and replaced with artificial fillings.

  • Cleaning and prep work

A local anaesthesia is administered into the patient to numb the affected area using a micro needle. A rubber dam is placed to isolate the tooth from the rest of the teeth. The rubber dam retracts the patient’s cheeks and keeps their tongue away, providing the dentist with improved visibility. The dentist then drills a tiny hole through the top surface of the affected tooth to remove the diseased and dead pulp tissues using small files. The filing also helps in shaping the inner chamber of the tooth. The dentist might also put an antimicrobial solution in the chamber to kill any remaining bacteria and eliminate the risk for further infection.

  • Filling the root canal

After cleaning, the drilled tooth is filled with a biocompatible material like ‘gutta percha’, and the canal is sealed completely with the help of cement. This ensures that the nerve tissues of the tooth is removed rendering the tooth practically dead thereby eliminating the associated pain and infection along with it. The cavity in your tooth is filled with temporary filling until you get a crown.

  • Fixing a crown

Your operated tooth will be fitted with a permanent crown to replace the void created into the tooth. Until the crown is complete, the patient is recommended to avoid chewing with that tooth. Once there is a crown or filling is done, the patient can use the tooth as before.

The root canal cost in Pune depends on a few factors:

The approximate costing for root canal can be anywhere from 3500 to 5,000 per tooth. Other factors which affect the costing include

  • The type of tooth treated: Multi-rooted teeth are more expensive than that of a tooth with a single root. So, molars and some premolars may cost more than incisors and canine.
  • Type of material used for crown: There are various types of materials such as Zirconia, E-max, and PFM (porcelain fused to metal crowns) or Gold & other metals. Depending on the type you select, your costing will vary.
  • The expertise of the dentist: A dentist with a profound experience will certainly charge more than a newer one.
